Our Team
The Team Manager will have overall responsibility for the service and development of the provisions. These include such diverse tasks as covering the compliance which we work toward the children's homes regulations, health and safety legislation. They will be responsible for operational management, personnel recruitment, retention and supervision and the structured assessment and person-centred care planning for all children and young people supported by us.
The Deputy Manager will work office hours, 9am-5pm to ensure there is always management present within the provisions during weekdays. The Team Manager will be available for support and guidance as and when required if not onsite. Alternatively, we operate a 24/7 on call service therefore in an emergency the management team will respond to on call.
In addition to the Deputy Manager, one shift leader will support the management team and the day to day running of the provision as delegated by the Team Manager in addition to contributing to the management and development of the team of support workers they work with on a shift. Team leader staff will support in the absence of the Deputy Manager.
W C B N E will also have the support from Managing Director who will support in the absence of the Team Manager as and when required.
Support Workers including a team leader will come to us with varying degrees of experience working within a variety of care settings and relevant life experience. We will look at their knowledge, training and experience through our stringent recruitment procedures and assess their compatibility with W C B N E . All employees will receive a thorough induction period and on-going training.
Support Workers will undertake the direct supervision of the child or young person placed with W C B N E . They will conduct their role in line with good practice, organisational policies and procedures and the individual care plans for the child/ Young person. Key worker roles will be allocated to staff with the child or Young person and the key worker will be responsible for maintaining all plans for the child or young person including the care plan and any safety plans, key workers will also attend all meetings for the child or young person, this ensures that the support worker remains fully informed of every aspect of the child's life and is active participant within the care team.
The child or young person will be always staffed depending on the needs. There is always an on-call manager who will be available at any time and will respond by telephone. The on call is covered by Team Manager and Deputy Manager from the W C B N E services.
W C B N E will ensure that the rotas always reflect the need for experienced and trained staff. The rota will demonstrate clear staffing hours to meet the needs of the child or young person. A detailed list of the current staff team and their relevant experience and qualification will be available upon request from the Team Manager.
Training and Safer recruitment
All staff members of W C B N E will go through a robust onboarding process which will include and initial pre-screen telephone interview if successful then a face-to-face interview conducted with two members of staff. Full employment history and employment references to cover the last 5 years and any gaps verified with a character reference, all references will be verified over the phone with the referee, and we require a fully enhanced DBS check which is checked yearly on the DBS update system.
Children and young people have a diverse range of needs and often bespoke training will be required for the team to support the child or young person, we will ensure that any training and development needs are identified and that the team are suitably trained to meet the needs of the child or young person. The staff team at W C B N E will have all completed mandatory training as part of their induction. Additional training will be completed as part of our core training structure - to be completed within 3 months of being in post. Further development is sectioned into our ongoing development training these include training courses such as our apprenticeship programs.
Mandatory Practical Training Courses
- PMVA - Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression, is a crucial training program designed for healthcare workers to safely manage potentially violent situations.
- PACE - covering brain development (including early brain development), ACE's (Adverse Childhood Experiences), Early Adversity, PACE (Playful, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) and PIES (Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social well-being).
- Emergency First Aid at work.
- Medication administration.
In addition to the above we have an intensive e-Learning package. Staff will complete mandatory courses during their induction programme such as Safeguarding of children in care Level 2, Safeguarding children advanced, Child Exploitation, Medication advanced, Child sexual exploitation awareness, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Food Safety Awareness Level 2, Equality and Diversity, GDPR Awareness, COSHH - Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Course, Health & Safety Awareness, Self-Harm Awareness, Bullying, Whistleblowing and Fire Safety.

In addition to the above mandatory training our intensive eLearning package offers a range of courses, with a programme of up to 42 courses to support the team to continually broaden and refresh their knowledge which include the following:
Prevent Radicalisation, Internet Safety Awareness, Drug and alcohol awareness, Manual Handling, Conflict Management, Communication & Record Keeping, Diet & Nutrition Awareness, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties Awareness, Risk assessment awareness, Lone working, Asbestos awareness, Allergen awareness, First Aid essentials, Personal care, Person centred care, Mental Health awareness and Learning Disability awareness.
